Jacintha Wong Zhi Xuan

Jacintha Wong is a classically trained violinist, ethnomusicologist, and music educator. She has played in KLPac Orchestra, Penang Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Limerick Orchestra.
In 2016, she graduated a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music major in classical violin performance from the Middlesex University in London. She has performed at different venues with her university colleagues in London included St Mary's Church, Burgh House and the Sevendroog Castle. Her musical interests surrounded by Western classical music, Irish traditional music and Hindustani classical music. Her passion for ethnomusicology leads her to pursue further studies in Ireland.
In 2018, she graduated a Master of Arts (Hons) in Ethnomusicology at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. She presented her solo performance on the Hindustani violin under the tutelage of Swarna Khuntia and completed a thesis addressing the mobility of an individual, the learning approaches of unfamiliar music, proposes the influence of Hindustani classical music and its contemporary practices resulting from the globalisation.
In 2019, she founded Canaris Concept, a musical ensemble that introduces different kinds of music and presented her recital debut as a violinist. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Musicology at the Cultural Centre, the University of Malaya doing research on the sustainability of Celtic music in Kuala Lumpur.
